The Ellis County Veterans Celebration stands as a cornerstone event in North Texas, honoring the valor and sacrifices of our nation's veterans. Since its inception in 2000, this annual ceremony has evolved into a significant cultural and civic occasion, drawing attendees from across the region.
Legacy and Origins
Founded by Perry Giles and David Hudgins, the Ellis County Veterans Celebration was established to provide a dedicated platform for recognizing the service of local veterans. The event's inaugural ceremony coincided with the dedication of the Ellis County Veterans Memorial on November 11, 2000, located at the Waxahachie Civic Center. This memorial serves as a lasting tribute to the county's fallen heroes.
In 2021, the Heroes Services Coalition, comprising of approximately 18 local community members—many of whom are veterans—assumed organizational responsibilities for the event. This transition ensured the continuation and growth of the celebration, reinforcing its commitment to honoring service members.
