David Smith – Cowboy Poet Lariat
David Smith is a celebrated cowboy poet who writes and performs original works across Texas and New Mexico, including venues like the Fort Worth Stockyards Rodeo, schools, and churches. His poetry captures the spirit of cattle drives, rugged Western life, and cowboy characters.
A member of the International Western Music Association, David has published three books and one CD. He has been honored for his contributions to poetry and history, including a commission to create poems for Ellis County Historical Marker dedications and recognition in the WHS Ex-Student’s Association Fine Arts Hall of Fame.

Retired from a 42-year flooring business, he and his wife, Pat, live in Waxahachie, where he was named the city’s official “Cowboy Poet Lariat.” Together, they have organized three Waxahachie Cowboy Gatherings.
