The Texas Theater

Location(s):
The Texas Theater is a fully-restored historic, two-story theater and performance venue with premium audiovisual technology, plush seats, full bar and an upscale lounge. The intimate, 220-seat space opened in 1895 and was constructed with natural acoustics taking priority. The Texas Theater’s early roots featured up-and-coming musical artists and thespians, which remains a focus over 125 years later with seasoned and renowned veterans of their craft mixed throughout the booking calendar.

The Texas Theater hosts live music, movies, small plays, stand-up comedy and more in its classic theater environment. Owners and Waxahachie residents, Jon and Alyssa Garrett, restored the theater’s art deco interior design during the 2022 restoration. The gilded detailing, high-end furnishings, and red and bronze accents throughout give the space a sense of grandeur and an opulent old Hollywood feel that makes for a memorable night out.

Nestled on the square in downtown Waxahachie, Texas, The Texas Theater has long been a fixture in Ellis County’s charming Gingerbread Capital. From Vaudeville to then up-and-coming Miranda Lambert, the theater has played host to many performances, first dates and first kisses.

Leon Russel, Maren Morris, Jack Ingram, Larry Joe Taylor, Cooder Graw, Rusty Wier (who even recorded a live album here), Eli Young Band, Tommy Alverson, Randy Rogers Band, Tejas Brothers, and Gary P Nunn are just a few of the artists who have graced its stage. As one of the oldest theaters in the state, The Texas Theater remains a vital part of the community.
